  నమ్మకమే.. స్నేహం!  బదరిక వనంలో ఒక పెద్ద మర్రిచెట్టు ఉంది. దాని నీడలోనే ఓ నీటి కొలను కూడా ఉంది. ఆ చెట్టు మీద బదరీ అనే కొంగ తన బుజ్జి కొంగతో నివసిస్తోంది. అవి కొలనులో దొరికే చేపలు తింటూ హాయిగా జీవిస్తున్నాయి. బుజ్జి కొంగకు రెక్కలు వచ్చిన తర్వాత కొలను దగ్గరకు వెళ్లి నీటిని, అందులో అటూ ఇటూ గెంతుతున్న చేపను చూస్తూ.. ఎంచక్కా ఆడుకోసాగింది. ఇంతలో అక్కడికి తల్లి కొంగ వచ్చింది. బుజ్జి కొంగ కేరింతలు చూసి.. 'అలా చేప పిల్ల గాలిలోకి ఎగురుతుంటే.. చక్కగా నోటితో పట్టుకుని ఆరగించాలి గాని అలా చూస్తూ కేరింతలు కొడుతున్నావెందుకు?' అని అడిగింది. 'అమ్మా! ఆ చేప పిల్ల నీటిలో నుంచి గాలిలోకి ఎంత ఆనందంగా గంతులు వేస్తుందో.. ఆ చేపపిల్లతో నాకు స్నేహం చేయాలని అనిపిస్తోంది. కానీ.. దాన్ని తినాలనిపించడంలేదు' అంది.
